|My father passed away in 1965, I was 11 and had 2 older sisters. Legacy immediately stepped in with assistance for mum with medical, dental, and schooling for us. We also joined the Bankstown Legacy Friday Girls Night where we had physical culture classes and elocution or voice production classes. I just soaked it up. It was something I thoroughly enjoyed and I looked forward every Friday night to our girls night. Through the voice production classes I then went on to compete in eisteddfods in speech and drama sections, and then on to a professional teacher to study Speech and Drama. I became Girls captain of Bankstown Legacy a few years later and was very honoured to receive the Presidents Trophy, an award for service to Legacy. I continued to attend until I married and moved to Cowra in. 1975.|
I have been teaching speech and drama to children for many years and have kept up the theatrical side of things, being president of Cowra Musical & Dramatic Society and part of a committee to start a Youth drama group in town.
None of this would have happened if I had not had that start through Legacy. The activities they provided, not only gave us something to do, but a sense of pride, achievement, and for me, confidence, leadership skills and love of the arts.
In 2006 I was asked to become a Legatee with Cowra contact group of Lachlan Legacy. This is my way of giving back to an organisation who helped shape my life and gave me the confidence and ability to become an active member of our community.
I also had wonderful holidays with Legacy! I was fortunate to be chosen to travel on the Galilee Gallelai ocean liner to Melbourne in 1966. What an experience for a young person. There were 12 of us I think, accompanied by 2 Legatees. We then had a tour of Melbourne and returned on an overnight bus! I also had weekends away in country towns. My last legacy holiday was 2 weeks in Cowra on a farm! I loved country life so much that I now call Cowra home. And of course there was always Operation Float! All such wonderful experiences! THANK YOU LEGACY.
