Defence Charity Ball

The Australian Defence Force Charity Ball is now firmly established on the Queensland social calendar. Each year, guests from the corporate scene and the Australian defence organisation come together with Legacy to raise funds for the care of families that lose a loved one serving Australia.

This year we expect 1,000 guests to assemble at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on 7 August for an evening of good food and wine, entertainment, dancing and fun. This social extravaganza is the ideal place to impress your personal and business contacts, network, or simply catch up with old friends or meet new ones. There is also an exciting auction of quality items including our renowned ‘money can’t buy experiences’ not available anywhere else.

Thanks to the generous support of the John Holland Group, the Australian Defence Force and other sponsors of this event to improve the lives of the Legacy family.

Date: Saturday, 7 August 2010 starting at 6:45pm

RAR National Memorial Walk Concert

The RAR Association (QLD) has extended an invitation to all Legacy Laurel Clubs and Care Groups to put together a bus for the RAR National Memorial Walk Concert to be held at Gallipoli Barracks on Sunday, 22 August.

The RAR National Memorial Walk is a 'living" memorial to commemorate those soldiers who have died while serving overseas with the Regiment. It consists of an avenue 700 metres long flanked by more than 1000 native Australian trees. The Walk is divided into operational theatre areas. At the base of selected trees is an individual plaque bearing the name and details of each of the 695 members of the Regiment who have died on overseas service.

The inscription on the entrance stones at Sadlier Street and Regiment Way says:

"In Australia they will remember me. Here is their spirit, in the land they loved. And here we guard the record which they themselves made."
- G.E.W. Bean, Official War Historian.
