A National Role
Legacy's Co-ordinating Council goes right back to the founding days. It had a different name then, a Federal Council, whose aim was to ensure that all autonomous Legacy Clubs, wherever they were established, would have some form of basic Unity.
Whilst the name has changed over the years its overall role is what the present name, Co-ordinating Council, implies the co-ordination of Legacy activity Australia-wide including the responsibility of monitoring that all Clubs adopt the obligations imposed by Legacy's Code.
The Council, Headquartered in Melbourne, with an executive and a membership representative of all States and Territories, is required by Statute to meet a minimum of five times a year, but usually meets upwards of nine times.
Co-ordinating Council is a continuing instrument of the Conference of all Legacy Clubs Australia-wide, which normally meets annually. It is not a regulatory body. In general, Co-ordinating Council:
· Make representations to Government and other organisations of Legacy interest.
· Collects, co-ordinates and disseminates the views of Clubs as necessary, between conferences.
· Is charged with the responsibility of monitoring that all clubs adopt the obligations imposed by the Legacy Code, which are mainly related to membership of Legacy and eligibility for Legacy benefits.
· Has custody of the copyright of the Legacy name and torch emblem and authority of the manner of its use.
· Assists the host club with arrangements for the National Conference of Legacy Clubs.
