Salute to Aussie Digger CD
The highly regarded Australian Army Band Sydney has produced an innovative, educational and enthralling CD 'Salute to the Aussie Diggers', which traces the country’s military history in narrative, sound and music with all proceeds to be donated to Legacy.
Historian, Dr Jonathan King, says Salute to the Aussie Digger CD, is a fitting way to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli.
“This moving portrayal of Australia’s proud military history narrated by Jack Thompson and brought together by modern day soldiers, musicians and historians, is a wonderful tribute to those who served, and an invaluable educational tool for generations following on,” said Dr King.
Organiser, Sgt Rod Mason, says Salute to the Aussie Digger has been designed to be entertaining, educational and as a tribute.“With music, excellent narration, historical facts and Australian War Memorial sound effects, the CD offers a window to the experiences faced by our soldiers,” Sgt Mason said.
"By taking this forward step, producing this fine CD which portrays so well the spirit of the Aussie Digger, and earmarking Legacy for the profits, the Australian Army Band Sydney typifies the spirit of comradeship and ethos of service and which have shaped Legacy and Australia," said Legatee Lawrie Wright.“We are very proud to be involved with this project.”

Legacies of our Fathers
Published to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of hostilities in the Pacific, Legacies of Our Fathers reveals the impact on families of men who had been Japanese prisoners of war. Written by the sons and daughters of POW, these extraordinary honest and intimate stories explore the effect of their father’s experiences on not only their childhoods, but their adult lives.
As children, some of the contributors never knew their fathers. Now, years later, they are discovering them through their wartime diaries and letters. Others have visited the sites of the prison camps and have found their father’s graves or retracted their steps. Those whose fathers did return grew up with other memories – a few words of Japanese, POW reunions, unexplained ill health or sometimes strange behaviour. Legacies of Our Fathers is a poignant and valuable record of the continuing effects of war and imprisonment.
Carolyn Newman is a Sydney-based freelance researcher. She has been involved with a number of military history projects in Canberra, Sydney and Perth and has worked for the Australian War memorial. During the past three years Carolyn has been researching and writing on Australia’s role in WWll for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
