LEGACY CONGRATULATES LJPSA WINNERS IN ADELAIDE

Adelaide, South Australia was the venue for outstanding talent, thought provoking presentations and spirited competition between 12-14 year secondary school students from across Australia.
The Legacy Junior Public Speaking Award National finals were held on Monday at the Adelaide Hilton where 10 students from around Australia gathered to pit their public speaking skills against some of the best in the country. Over 800 students participated in the event which resulted in 10 students reaching the finals.
The winner of the award was Lucy Lee from Brisbane Grammar School who spoke and inspired her audience about her interpretation of the Southern Cross in her speech titled “The Southern Cross – Our Australian Icon”, runner up was James Monaghan of Sydney Grammar who provided thought provoking insights of Freedom of Speech in his speech titled “A Legacy Of Intelligent Solutions”, and in third place was an impassioned plea for tolerance Tom McNamara of Launceston Church Grammar School. His speech was titled “What The World Needs Now – Tolerance”
The Chair of the judging panel Graham Campbell (Rostrum) said the standard of the speakers was exceptionally high and that the decision to award one prize extremely difficult. The maturity of content and delivery was outstanding and selection of topics excellent.
All finalists received a medal and an Oxford Dictionary and the first prize winner received a cheque for $500
The awards were attended by the Chairman of Legacy Co-ordinating Council, L/David Grierson, representatives from the capital city Legacy clubs and parents and family of the competitors.
Guest speaker was Peter Goers of ABC Radio 891 Adelaide.
