HOUSE OF DREAMS UP FOR GRABS

Donated and built for Legacy logo1.png

Bert Dennis, OAM, the founding Chairman of the Dennis Family Corporation, has donated a 4 bedroom home in Junortoun near Bendigo that will auctioned on 19 April at 12noon.   All profit and proceeds as a result of the sale will be donated to Bendigo Legacy to continue its welfare work of caring for the families of deceased veterans. Mr Dennis completed a similar venture in Melbourne’s western suburbs late 2006 where Legacy Melbourne received $47,000. Mr Dennis, one of Australia’s most successful property development and project homebuilders, is a former Junior Legatee whose veteran father died when he was a child.

Mr Dennis genuinely values his association with Legacy, dating back to 1947 when his mother Ivy and her family moved from Sale to Ivanhoe.

“Soon after the move a connection with Legacy began and life become more secure,” Mr Dennis said.

“The Legacy Club was a wonderful enriching experience in the lives of the younger members of my family, with some life long friendships being sustained throughout the years,” he said.

Bendigo Legacy President Caroline Hope (pictured with the house) said, “We are highly delighted about this exciting news, and the wonderful story of a former Junior Legatee demonstrating his appreciation for past Legacy support. The most generous initiative of the Dennis Family Homes Corporation will provide much needed funds to support Legacy’s caring work into the future.”

Bendigo Legacy wish to acknowledge the following local suppliers and organisations who have generously donated product or services to further boost the profits Legacy will receive from the sale of the Charity Auction.  A special thank you goes to:

Legacy at Huntingdale Charity Golf Day

The 2008 Golf_Logo.pngLegacy at Huntingdale Charity Golf day which was held on Friday 22 February was very successful.   We had a full field of 224 enthusiastic golfers taking the opportunity to play at this prestigious golf course.

A large percentage of the golfers enter the Legacy competition each year and several came from interstate and regional areas.  The Perpetual Club Trophy which was introduced in 2006 was won by Spring Valley   Golf Club.  Congratulations go Colin Edwards, Chris Kourdolous, Steve Brudenall and Blake Sorenson from Spring Valley Golf Club. (below Chris Kourdolous accepting the Club Trophy)

The proceeds on the day exceeded $27,000 which is a wonderful result.  We wish to acknowledge our sponsors including Wanless Wastecorp, John Allison Monkhouse, Elegant Interiors, Ian Glenister Legal Firm, Drummond Golf (raffle prize) and Pussyfoot Socks (product for runner-up prizes) for their generous contributions.

Legacy is delighted and honoured to have been selected as Huntingdale Golf Club’s preferred charity since 1932 and it is estimated that over the past 76 years, Huntingdale Golf has enabled Legacy to raise in today’s terms well over $1million which is a tremendous contribution.  We wish to extend our appreciation to the Captain, Thel Adam and President, Clive Nicholson from Huntingdale Golf Club for allowing Legacy to use the golf course to raise vital funds for Legacy to continue our welfare work of caring for the families of deceased veterans.  The event would not have run so smoothly without the help of our stalwart Legatees and the volunteers from the National Servicemen’s Association.

Legacy’s 77th Annual Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for Students77th.png

The number of students who participated in Legacy’s Annual Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for Students continues to grow. It is estimated that over 3,600 were in attendance at this year’s ceremony held on 24 April 2008. The National Servicemen are to be congratulated on their appearance and the manner in which they assisted Legatees and students. The event was featured on the evening news on Channel 7, 9, 10 and ABC and the attached photograph appeared in The Herald Sun newspaper.

The Governor of Victoria and Patron of Melbourne Legacy, Professor David de Kretser AC addressed the students by saying “those who fought showed great courage under very difficult conditions and were very committed to their mates beside them and served our country in a way that made them heroes.” He went on to say “We, as a society, need to ensure that we support Legacy, to enable the support of the widows and children of servicemen to continue. This is a debt that we owe to those who fought for our country so courageously.”

We gratefully acknowledge the Victorian Veterans Council for the funding grant provided towards the cost of staging this event.
