Regrettably, Kokoda 2020 – Our Challenge, Their Legacy has been postponed to 2021. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, the Legacy Australia Inc. Board has made the difficult decision to postpone the project. The health and safety of our beneficiaries and their ADF Mentors, were at the forefront of this decision.

With the closure of international borders; Defence Health’s underwriter Allianz, withdrawing our travel insurance product; the indefinite closure of the Kokoda Trail; and No Roads, our tour operator, have ceased all activities until at least 30 June 2020. It was inevitable that the project would need to be postponed. The Legacy Australia Inc. Board was optimistic for a favourable decision, however, it is not possible during these times to execute such a program.

‘Kokoda – Our Challenge, Their Legacy 2020’ (Kokoda 2020) was to involve a group of 25 Legacy beneficiaries, accompanied by 15 ADF mentors, walking the Kokoda Trail during Legacy Week, 29 August to 11 September 2020.

Kokoda has its place in Australia’s national identity, where so many Australian service personnel distinguished themselves. Often depicted as the ultimate physical challenge for contemporary Australian pilgrims, this journey will reveal the best in both ADF members and Legacy beneficiaries and will provide a wonderful inspiration.

In due course, arrangements for 2021 will be released.
