Club History

Launceston Legacy Inc. was founded as a Remembrance Club in 1927. Mr. G Youl was elected as the first
President and Mr. W.O. Layh was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Due to work commitments Mr. Layh was replaced by Mr. W.J. Manthei. The first Annual Meeting was held on Saturday, October 28, 1928.

At a Special General Meeting held on August 4, 1933 it was resolved that the name of the Club be changed to Launceston Legacy Club.
Launceston Legacy Inc. has 68 active Legatees and 8 supernumeraries. We look after 1888 widows and 5
children.

Members meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 12.30 p.m. at Legacy House, 59 York Street, Launceston. Launceston Legacy Inc. covers the northern half of Tasmania – north of Oatlands. We have groups in Devonport, Central Coast, Burnie/Wynyard and Circular Head. Country Legatees cover the other areas.
We have twelve Widows’ Clubs throughout the north of the State. These assist widows/ers with socialisation and combat the loneliness that many of them feel after the loss of their partners.

We are always keen to have new members as volunteers to assist with our sacred task of looking after the families
of our deceased Veterans.

Legacy Badge Days are a busy time for our club and any assistance from the local community would be greatly appreciated.
