How we help

We ensure that no spouse or child of a veteran suffers financially and socially after the death or serious injury of their loved one.

A century of service to
our veterans’

Legacy is an iconic Australian charity dedicated to supporting the families of deceased and seriously injured veterans. We are one of the only organisations in the world that does this important work.

For 100 years, Legacy has helped hundreds of thousands of Australian widows, families and children of soldiers who have lost their lives or health during or following service in all conflicts since World War I to Iraq.

With the help of a group of dedicated volunteers, known as Legatees, Legacy currently supports around 40,000 widows, children and dependants across the nation.

Legacy cares for around 34,000 beneficiaries including 1,300 children and youth (0-26 years) and 1,000 beneficiaries with a disability.

Who we help

Legacy cares for the families of Australian Defence Force men and women who have lost their lives or their health as a result of their service.

Young families & children

From the time of bereavement, Legacy is on hand to provide practical and emotional support. A Legatee will be allocated to assist and mentor the family.

Legacy ensures that widows are not disadvantaged by their partner’s service. Every effort is made to ensure they have similar opportunities to those they would have had if their partner had not passed away.
