On 17 July, nineteen Legacy children as well as eight parents attended Legacy WA’s zoo excursion. The day was a fantastic opportunity for the children to reconnect with other Legacy kids who can empathise with their circumstances and understand the struggle of losing a parent or the impact of having an ill health parent.
After a wet start to the morning, the rain didn’t deter the kids who were excited for the day ahead! With rain jackets and umbrellas in hand, the kids went exploring far and wide for their favourite animals.
Connor, Hannah and Logan’s favourite part of the day was visiting the Nocturnal House, whilst Matt enjoyed the lions and Ben the Tree Kangaroos. The kids all agreed that the highlight of the day was seeing all their friends again!
Community Services Officer, Hannah shared her thoughts on the excursion. “It was a great day! It was so good to see some of the kids again and to meet new families!” She elaborated “The benefits of events like this are evident. The children were interacting with one another; playing games, catching up with friends they had met at previous events, and making new friends.”
Fundraising and Volunteer Coordinator, Kelly who worked hard to organise the event said “It was a fabulous day. It was my first time meeting the children and parents and I have never seen such a variation of children’s ages get along and engage like these children.”
A big thank you to Perth Zoo for providing under cover space for all attendees and the food vans for collaborating with us to ensure the day was a success.
