Legacy Great Ocean Road Walk

Legacy South Australia is undertaking a unique event this year during Legacy Week to raise public awareness of the mission of Legacy but also to raise much needed funds. Legacy is a not-for-profit and although they do receive some government funding, they need to raise 95% of their annual funding.

This year, Legacy's Pensions Manager, Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Ian Kennedy, and his second son, Nicholas Kennedy will undertake to walk the Great Ocean Road over a period of 5-6 days - a distance of approximately 100 kilometres.

A short background on why Ian has decided to attempt this: Ian is a third generation service member, his father served in WWII, Korea, and Malaya and returned home very much damaged, and his mother, who also served during the Second World War, cared for her hurband for many years and sometimes under very difficult conditions. Ian has served his country for 41 years, his wife has served for 30 years and their eldest son is a current serving member who is currently deployed in defence of his country.

They are hoping that this walk will not only raise money for Legacy but also help people understand the story behind why Ian and his son Nicholas are undertaking this commitment, which is to remember that the widows/ widowers of Veterans are often forgotten and yet their service is equally important and recognition of their quiet and dedicated commitment and understanding of those who have returned must never be forgotten.

You can donate to this worthy cause by going to:

*UPDATE*
Unfortunately, due to a medical emergency, Ian and his son have had to postpone the walk for one week. The walk will now commence on 2nd September, not 28th August as stated above.

*UPDATE 2*
Ian and his son Nicholas have had to postpone the Great Ocean Road walk due Nicholas’s ill health. Nicholas is still undergoing tests to determine exactly what the issue is, but his specialist doesn’t want him doing anything physical for at least two months. Of course, Ian doesn’t want to do the walk without him and is devastated that they were unable to do it on the advised date.
Ian and Nicholas hope to be doing the walk late November or early December. Ian will keep us advised and, once the dates are confirmed, will post lots of pictures of the them doing the walk together.
Thank you for your support and understanding.

*UPDATE 3*

To all our loyal followers and other interested people, you will be very pleased to note that Ian and Nicholas are now set to do the Great ocean walk starting on Saturday the 26 Nov 06 and finishing on Friday 2 Dec, Nicholas has had confirmation from his specialist that his health issue has stabilised enough for him to undertake this walk, and he is thrilled that he can now do this fund raising event with his Dad, we are always hoping for more money so please if you haven't donated we would welcome your contribution. To donate please go https://chuffed.org/project/legacy-great-ocean-walk

We would also like to request that you send this message on to family and friend and ask for them to contribute so that the money raised from this event allows for the great work that Legacy does for the families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and for those who suffer from the results of war continue to be looked after.
