KIDOGO ART INSTITUTE 47 Mews Rd, Fremantle

The Fremantle Society is pleased to invite you to the launch of the Old Fremantle Exhibition at Kidogo on Thursday 25 May at 6 pm.

You will not find the exhibition in the list of events for the Fremantle Heritage Festival which begins the next day, but our event will run until 4 June. Sneak a peak available on Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 between 11 and 4.

These are the exact same original images from the WA Maritime Museum exhibition in 2003 and all are available for sale. The author John Dowson will relate some of the stories that went into making the book along with anecdotes about some of the pictures. The Old Fremantle won two awards at the 2003 WA Premier' Book Awards.

The image above is the Richmond Hotel at 193 Queen Victoria Street, later known as the Bridge Hotel. On the bar sat a jar with the largest prawn caught nearby in the river. The record prawn was eleven and a half inches long. Later the hotel boasted the first beer garden in Fremantle. It closed in 1964.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
