101 year old Legacy Widow receives ANZAC of the Year Award

The ANZAC of the Year Award honors those who serve in peace as well as perpetuating the memory and gallantry of those who served in war recognizing organisations and individuals within the community for their outstanding service.

On Saturday 10 October 101 year old Legacy widow Anne Leach OAM, who served as a nurse in the Middle East in World War Two, was presented with her award at Government House, Perth in recognition of her exceptional courage and devotion to victims of armed conflicts or natural disasters and her pioneering spirit in the areas of public health and nursing education.

Only seven awards were made nationally. Two Western Australians received the award. Legatee Wayne Gardiner, RFD a military historian and auctioneer at Legacy’s popular Militaria Auctions for the last 20 years, was recognised for his years of sustained and enthusiastic commitment to the community through his involvement with many community organisations, and in particular through his fostering the understanding and remembrance of Australia’s Military history.

Congratulations Anne and Wayne.

West Coast Eagles V Swans “HMAS Sydney II Memorial Match

On Sunday 26th July Legacy collected at the 5th Annual HMAS Sydney II AFL game between The West Coast Eagles and the Sydney Swans at Domain Stadium, Subiaco.

Collectors for Legacy included Legatees and partners, Companions, Widows, former wards and office staff, assisted by unformed Navy personnel from HMAS Stirling and the ANZAC Class frigate HMAS Warramunga for assisting Legacy on the day.

A special thanks to Sophie McDowell (Events and Fundraising Coordinator) for organising the event and coordinating the Legacy helpers on the day.

Similarly a special thank you to The West Coast Eagles Management and Jasmine Cappellucci (WCE Event Manager) for their continued generous support. A fantastic $11,400 was collected before, during and after the game.

Before the match, Legacy ward Corey Gallagher had the honour of tossing the coin and meeting the captains from both teams who presented him with the coin as a keepsake before settling down to watch the match with his mum Cassandra at prime boundary side seats. Corey was seen smiling away as he normally does, this time sporting one of our ANZAC commemorative embroidered shirts up on the big screen.
