
David Grant, BM, was born in Sydney and educated in Meadowbank. He joined the Royal Australian Navy in January 1963 as an Engineering Apprentice at HMAS Nirimba. He served on HMAS Melbourne (FESR), HMAS Sydney (Vietnam) and HMAS Queensborough as D/Engineer.
After training in HMS Dolphin for Submarines he returned to HMAS Platypus to serve on HMAS Oxley, Otway and Onslow twice. After an incident on Onslow in March 1981, he was awarded a Bravery Medal and promoted to Engineer Officer.
Discharged in 1984 to the active reserve to serve in HMAS Platypus as Quality Control Officer and later in Canberra with DMO on the Collins Class Submarine Building Project, he concluded his naval services as Divisional Officer at the Defence Flying School (Tamworth), retiring in 2015.
Beyond defence, David served as Principal Director of the Lincoln Red Cattle Society Australia Ltd. He has held leadership roles across community organisations, including President of Bundarra Lions.
A Member of Inverell Legacy since 2014, he has served in various board positions, including Vice President, and is currently a Director of Legacy Foundation of NSW representing Armidale, Inverell and Tamworth.
David was appointed to the Board of Legacy Australia in 2021 and serves on the Governance Committee and the Finance Audit and Risk Management Committee.
