Michael Annett grew up in Western Victoria and after local schooling he entered the Royal Military College Duntroon in 1980. Michael now has over 40 years service in the ADF, 26 years in the Regular Army and then as a Reservist since 2007. Michael has served on operations in the Middle East and also in Afghanistan.

On leaving the Regular Army Michael worked as the CEO of RSL Victoria from 2006 to 2019 and then moved to DVA to assist them with the establishment of the initial six Veteran & Family Wellbeing Hubs. His subsequent project work has included work in supporting the creation of the Joint Transition Authority within Defence and related initiatives.

Michael was appointed to the Board of Legacy Australia in November 2025 and is the Chair of the Governance Committee.

Currently, Michael is President of Melbourne Legacy, the National President of the Defence Reserves Association and Chair of the Melbourne Cricket Club’s Military Veteran Group. He is a member of ESORT. Michael retains links to his initial Army service through his role as the Honorary Colonel of 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse Regiment. Michael was appointed to the Board of Legacy Australia in November 2025 and is the Chair of the Governance Committee.

He holds a BA with Honours in History from UNSW, a Master’s in International Relations from Deakin University and is a graduate of the AICD. Michael is married to Helen and they have two wonderful adult children, Victoria and William.
