Peter Kalkman

Legatee Peter Kalkman is a retired senior public servant and military officer. In his retirement, Peter has spent the last 30 years volunteering with Legacy. Firstly, as a Board Member and National Treasurer for Legacy Australia and secondly, in the Queanbeyan-Eden-Monaro (QEM) region as their President, and for the Queanbeyan part of QEM, Peter looks after 11 widows and is also Chair, welfare, membership, and pensions officer.

Peter’s career since a 16-year-old has been in the Australian Navy where he spent 22 years reaching the rank of Warrant Officer (WO) and 28 years in the Australian Navy Reserves where he became a commissioned officer with his last job before reaching mandatory retirement age as a Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) managing Operational Postings for the Navy in Canberra.  After leaving full-time military service Peter worked in the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation for 12 years. Peter moved back to the Department of Defence as a Director having roles as the Defence Queensland Regional Manager; Director, Information Systems Security; and Enterprise Architect for the Intelligence agencies. In 1992 and again in 2000 Peter was awarded the Australia Day Medal for services to ASIO.

Peter also has military decorations for operational service in Vietnam and the Far East Strategic Reserve.  Peter is a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society and an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management in recognition of his management achievements in a senior management role.
