The Legacy Torch Relay presented by Defence Health

2023 marks 100 years since Legacy was established in Australia.

To honour this commemorative year Legacy Australia Inc in conjunction with Perfect Events have organised a Centenary Torch Relay presented by Defence Heath.

The Relay commenced in Pozieres, France on 23rd April, 2023 leading up to ANZAC Day and travelled around Australia stopping at all 45 Legacy Clubs.

Goulburn Legacy’s leg of the Relay was held on Thursday 27th July, 2023 and the route was as follows: –

The relay commenced at 10.00am from the Big Merino where Jennie Gordon conducted  a ‘Welcome to Country’ and Goulburn Legacy’s Vice President Legatee Greg Seaman said a few words, cut the ribbon and commenced the Relay.

Relay walkers walked from the Big Merino along Hume Street, turning right onto Clinton Street, left onto Auburn Street and walking straight down to the traffic lights at the North end of town where they  turned right onto Reynolds Street and completed the relay in Belmore Park at approx. 12noon.

A Cauldron was then  lit jointly, in Belmore Park, by Goulburn Legacy’s President Don Pennay and one of our longest serving Legatees Rob Wilson.  A Commemorative Service led by Goulburn Legacy’s Junior Vice President Legatee Dean Ferraris took  place.

The Service included the joint unveiling of a Legacy Centenary Plaque by Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Peter Walker and one of our Legacy beneficiaries.  A wreath was also be laid jointly by President Don Pennay and Goulburn Legacy Office Manager Mrs Linda Marchet.

The Community and out of town guests  joined  us in Belmore Park on the day to mark this special occasion.
