The 100-day countdown is on for Legacy WA as they prepare to kick off the torch relay for Australia.

The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay Presented by Defence Health will start in Pozieres, France on Anzac Day 2023 before travelling through London and onto Australia, touching down in Albany on the 3rd of May.

The six-month campaign will continue to travel around the country to honour one of Australia’s oldest and most trusted charities.

Legacy Australia is celebrating 100 years of service, fulfilling the battlefield promise to “look after the missus and the kids”.

Legacy WA CEO Matt Granger said that the 100 years of service was a momentous achievement.

“Reaching this milestone is important to our veterans’ and their families showing Legacy is dedicated and committed to upholding the promise we made a hundred years ago. The Legacy torch and undying flame will forever be lit with the support of our community.

Though Legacy Australia is celebrating 100 years, Legacy WA has been involved in the Western Australian community just shy of a century and will be celebrating its own centenary in 2028.

The Western Australian leg of the torch relay will include significant stops such as Albany and Fremantle.

The torch will arrive in Perth on the 6th of May, where a community day will be held at Wellington Square for all to come to celebrate the organisation and the veterans’ families they serve.

Throughout Australia and the duration of the campaign, a collective goal to raise over $10m has been set to continue to provide the services and to evolve with the current environment that faces our veterans’ families.

Currently across Australia, Legacy supports around 40,000 people.
