The Legacy Torch has reached Sydney as part of The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay.

The week started with the Legacy flame being carried to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Sydney Legacy beneficiary Dyontae had the honour of taking the Torch all the way to the top.

Next, the Torch visited HMAS Supply II at Fleet Base East. We would like to thank the Royal Australian Navy for this opportunity and for giving us a tour of the ship.

On Wednesday the relay began at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park with a remembrance ceremony. We were honoured to have the Governor of NSW, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC cut the ribbon to mark the start of the relay.

The relay route travelled throughout the iconic sites of Sydney including the Sydney Opera House and Martin Place. A special thank you to our torch bearers including former Governor General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK CVO MC (Retd), Assistant Minister for Defence and Veterans’ Affairs, the Honourable Matt Thistlethwaite MP and former radio broadcaster Alan Jones.

Next up was the Penrith relay. Starting at Tench Reserve North Playground, the relay travelled a 4.6km route before concluding at The Log Cabin.

The second Sydney relay took place on Sunday, followed by a Community Day. We were honoured to have Anthony ‘blue wiggle’ Field, Channel 7 Sunrise’s Mark Beretta, Gardening Australia’s Costa Georgiadis, sports commentator Gordon Bray and NSW Minister for Veterans, the Honourable David Harris MP as torch bearers.

A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in each relay and to those who came out to support us.

The Torch will now travel to Wollongong.
