Regrettably, Kokoda 2021 – Our Challenge, Their Legacy (Kokoda 2021) has been postponed to 2022. After consideration of the current COVID-19 environment, the LA Inc. Board at its meeting on Thursday, 25 February resolved that Kokoda 2021 be postponed to 2022. It is particularly disappointing, especially for our beneficiaries to have this activity postponed for the second time.

Several reasons brought the LA Inc. Board to this decision, including unable to ensure the health and wellbeing of trekkers, international borders remaining closed, Defence Health Adventure insurance remaining unavailable and COVID-19 vaccine, testing and quarantine requirements.

Legacy Australia is optimistic about 2022, to coincide with the 80th Anniversary of the Kokoda campaign. 2021 Trekkers will be given priority for 2022.

‘Kokoda – Our Challenge, Their Legacy 2021’ (Kokoda 2021) was to involve a group of 25 Legacy beneficiaries, accompanied by 15 ADF mentors, walking the Kokoda Trail.

Kokoda has its place in Australia’s national identity, where so many Australian service personnel distinguished themselves. Often depicted as the ultimate physical challenge for contemporary Australian pilgrims, this journey will reveal the best in both ADF members and Legacy beneficiaries and will provide a wonderful inspiration.

In due course, arrangements for 2022 will be released.
