Legacy Australia have once again partnered with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to run a Kokoda trek in September for our junior beneficiaries. A group of up to 23 junior beneficiaries aged between 16-24 will complete the trail accompanied by approximately five serving ADF Mentors.

The Kokoda Trail has its place in Australia’s national identity. It is where so many Australian service personnel distinguished themselves during WWII. The trek is often depicted as the ultimate physical challenge for contemporary Australian pilgrims and this journey will reveal the best in both ADF members and Legacy beneficiaries. As they walk together in the footsteps of those serving members who sacrificed their lives for our future, participants will gain a deep insight into Australian wartime history and develop strong leadership and resilience skills.

The trip will take place between 24 September and 6 October 2023. This will include nine days of walking the 96-kilometre trail. Trip costs will be covered by Legacy and participants will meet in Brisbane before travelling to Papua New Guinea. Experienced trekking company No Roads Expeditions will be leading the trip.

Participants should be aware that this will be a physically and mentally challenging activity. The trek involves demanding walking through challenging terrain for up to seven hours a day whilst carrying a pack weighing up to 15kg. A reasonable level of fitness is required to successfully complete the trek.

If you are currently receiving support from Legacy and meet the above criteria, please contact your local Legacy club to apply.

Applications close 21 April 2023.
