Legacy flame touches down in Adelaide

Adelaide has welcomed the Legacy flame to the city as part of The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay.

The Torch travelled 14.8km through the streets of Adelaide and was carried by 50 Torch bearers including Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia and Patron for Legacy SA, The Honourable Susan Close MP Deputy Premier of South Australia,The Honourable Peter Malinauskas, MP Premier of South Australia, The Honourable David Speirs, MP Leader of the Opposition in South Australia, The Honourable Geoff Brock, Minister for Veterans Affairs, Legatee Senator Andrew McLachlan CSC, The Honourable Graham Ingerson, former Deputy Premier and Legacy Ward, Legatee The Honourable Nicola Centofanti, MLC Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council.

The relay started with a flypast from the Royal Australian Air Force. The P-8A Poseidon aircraft then flew over each War Memorial in South Australia to continue centenary commemorations throughout the state.

Once the ceremonial ribbon was cut, the flame was carried from Keswick Barracks, past the Adelaide Botanical Gardens and Adelaide Town Hall, through Rundle Mall and War Memorial Drive, for a small service at the Cross of Sacrifice, and then continued through the River Torrens Footbridge, Torrens Parade Gound, and the Avenue of Honour, before concluding at the National War Memorial at Kintore Avenue with the lighting of the cauldron.

The Torch will now make its way to Darwin.
