About this Report

As I provide my contribution to this Annual Report and prepare to hand over to my successor, I can reflect on the past year’s achievements, at the same time recognising that Legacy is operating in a constantly changing environment. As a Club, we can certainly derive satisfaction from the role that Brisbane Legacy has played since its formation over eighty years ago.Satisfaction must not, however, become complacency: like its ever-changing environment, Legacy too must evolve and accept change or face the risks of losing its way and becoming irrelevant. 2009 saw a number of initiatives at Club and National level which will prepare the way for the Club to move into the future.

From the CEO

The recent death of five servicemen in Afghanistan during June is a stark and salient reminder of why Legacy exists. The tragic loss of Sappers Jacob Moerland (21) and Darren Smith (26) on 14th June, and of Privates Timothy Aplin (38), Benjamin Chuck (27) and Scott Palmer (27) on 21st June highlight the seriousness of the situation in Afghanistan and the sacrifices being made by many Australian families.

A message from our president

This is my first report as your new President. Many of you have expressed your congratulations on my appointment and I am grateful for your encouragement and support. Legacy, as we all know is much more than just the President and I want to tell you that we are blessed to have a group of wise, experienced and committed Legatees who make up your Board of Directors.
