The Toowoomba Legacy Club was formed as a group on 22nd December 1945 and was granted its Charter on 26th February 1947.
Initially the need was to care for the many Widows and Children due to the 2nd World War. Legatees were younger and committed, support continued until that generation of children had grown up. Today the majority of Widows are elderly and many reside in Retirement Villages or Nursing Homes. We care for 700 widows whose husbands served in the Army, 200 Widows husbands served in the Air Force, and 40 of our Widows husbands served in the Navy. However we also have in our care 12 children whose Dads served in the Army, 3 whose Dad was Air Force and 1 child whose Dad was Navy. 11 of these children are School age , 5 attend University, and 1 does not attend school as of yet.
From the outset the need was to care for the many widows living in the area who were socially isolated and in need of support.
