Ian was a Junior Legatee after his father passed away as a result of his WW2 service in New Guinea. Legacy supported Ian until he completed his full-time study in 1970.
Most of Ian’s working career was in education. He worked as a teacher in primary and special education and later as a consultant. He was a school principal for 15 years. He has a Diploma of Teaching, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and a master’s degree in special education.
Ian was involved with The Australian Association of Special Education (AASE) for over 10 years as a committee member, treasurer, and was President of the NSW Chapter from 2000–2003.
In 2008 Ian was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to study Effective Schoolwide Reading Models in the USA. He used the knowledge gained from this experience to initiate whole school literacy programs in Western Sydney and later to work as a Literacy Consultant with the Association of Independent Schools NSW.
Ian retired in 2014 and became a Legatee in 2018. He has been on the Sydney Legacy Club Management Committee since 2021 and was President from 2023 – 2025. Ian has chaired the Tier Assessment Review Panel at Sydney Legacy since 2021. Ian has been a Director on the Legacy Club Services Board since 2023. He joined the Legacy Australia Board in April 2026.
He has been married to Jeanette for 37 years and they have three children and two beautiful grandchildren. Ian loves to play golf, support the Rabbitohs rugby league team, travel, and spend time with his family.
