The Chloe Phippen Education Grant: Abby shares her story
Sydney Legacy's inaugural Chloe Phippen Education Grant recipient and beneficiary, Abby, reflects on the impact of Legacy's support after the passing of her veteran father.
On Wednesday 20 May, Sydney Legacy Club held its annual Volunteer Recognition Event at the Anzac War Memorial in Hyde Park, bringing together volunteers and distinguished guests to celebrate their dedication to Legacy and the families we support.
The event was held in line with National Volunteer Week, Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering. The theme for 2026, ‘Your Year to Volunteer’, resonated strongly throughout the evening as we honoured the incredible work of our many volunteers.
Volunteers from across Sydney attended the event, recognised for their contributions to Legacy through fundraising events, corporate and cadet groups, Legacy Line and visitor programs.
The keynote speaker for the evening was General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK AC (Mil) CVO MC (Ret). Leniece, a Sydney Legacy beneficiary, gave a moving speech about the impact of Legacy’s support, and some of Sydney Legacy’s tertiary students sent in videos expressing their appreciation for our volunteers.
