Hobart Legacy - Legacy

Legacy is a charitable movement providing services to Australian families suffering after the injury or death of a spouse or parent, during or after their defence force service. We currently care for around 80,000 widow(er)s and 605 children and disabled dependants throughout Australia.

Within Southern Tasmania Hobart Legacy Incorporated (which encompasses an area from Queenstown through Oatlands to just south of St. Helens) provides services to over 1000 Legacy beneficiaries including twenty five children.

Legacy is dedicated to enhancing the lives and opportunities of our families through innovative and practical programs aimed at:
  • the protection of individuals and families basic needs;
  • advocating for their entitlements, rights and benefits;
  • assisting families through bereavement; and
  • helping people thrive, despite their adversity and loss.

There to ease the pain

NOTHING can alleviate grief of losing a parent, as 23-year-old Natasia Mitton-Baker and her sisters Jamille, 19, and Kaela, 17, know only too well. Their father, Mark Baker, died in 2010 while serving with the Royal Australian Navy.

The girls were young but they remember their dad’s bravery during deployment — and they replicate that bravery themselves, says mum Carolyn Mitton.

Ms Mitton, along with her youngest daughter, Kaela, were recipients of Legacy Westpac Grants after Mr Baker’s death — funding that changed their lives after such a tragedy.
