|The ANZAC of the Year Award honors those who serve in peace as well as perpetuating the memory and gallantry of those who served in war recognizing organisations and individuals within the community for their outstanding service. |
On Saturday 10 October 101 year old Legacy widow Anne Leach OAM, who served as a nurse in the Middle East in World War Two, was presented with her award at Government House, Perth in recognition of her exceptional courage and devotion to victims of armed conflicts or natural disasters and her pioneering spirit in the areas of public health and nursing education.
Only seven awards were made nationally. Two Western Australians received the award. Legatee Wayne Gardiner, RFD a military historian and auctioneer at Legacy’s popular Militaria Auctions for the last 20 years, was recognised for his years of sustained and enthusiastic commitment to the community through his involvement with many community organisations, and in particular through his fostering the understanding and remembrance of Australia’s Military history.
Congratulations Anne and Wayne.
