Celebrate Legacy’s Centenary during Legacy Week!
On the 27th of August – 2nd of September, 2023 – Buy a Bear or Badge, and support Legacy Brisbane’s annual fundraising campaign, Legacy Week
2023 marks 100 years of Legacy, and there is no better time to remember, and recognise, the sacrifices made by many Australian soldiers and their families.
Legacy’s fundraising began in 1942, during WW2, when the War Orphans Appeal was founded in order to raise funds for the widows and children of soldiers who did not return. Today, this appeal is known as Legacy Week. This tradition has carried on every single year since, as Legacy Week sees Legacy volunteers (Legatees) fundraising alongside the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to raise awareness, sell merchandise and receive donations to help support the families in Legacy care. These passionate volunteers will take to the streets and shopping centres across Queensland to fundraise, and they need your support!
The funds raised throughout Legacy Week go directly towards providing both financial and social support to the dependants in its care, ranging from supporting school fees, uniforms and books for children, to hosting social groups for widows to be able to interact and mingle with others to ensure there is no social isolation. Legacy Brisbane currently cares for more than 5,700 family members of injured and fallen veterans across Brisbane and its surrounds, Sunshine Coast, and Rockhampton/Central Queensland.
Legacy Week is a time for all Australians to show their support for the widows, widowers, and children whose loved ones have served our country.
There are many options to show your support, including the popular Legacy Bears, or Legacy Badges. The Legacy Badge, which is a special emblem of support for our veterans’ families, symbolises our nation’s greatest values of mateship, compassion, and courage. The Legacy badges may be little but the funds they raise make a big impact!
