Due to the cancellation of face-to-face fundraising during Legacy Week 2021 (29 August – 4 September), the ‘Lunge for Legacy’ fundraiser was launched to bring people together and raise vital funds for our veterans’ families.

Individuals, clubs, staff and organisations fired up their glutes throughout September and raised over $35,000 for the families of veterans who have lost their lives to suicide.

Participants committed to 1000 lunges throughout the month – 500 on each leg – to represent the 500+ families who have lost a veteran to suicide since 2001.

Across 314 fundraising teams, over 300,000 lunges were completed. Top teams on the leader board included Altona RSL, Sydney Legacy’s Fundraising, Marketing and Communications (FMC) team and the Australian Military Bank, with a combined total of over $8,000 raised.

For every veteran, there are up to six people that will be affected by their death. That’s almost 3,000 family members who have lost their loved ones to suicide alone.

All of the money raised as part of Lunge for Legacy goes directly towards supporting our beneficiaries by relieving financial hardship, delivering social connection services and providing developmental opportunities.

Thank you to everyone who took part. Your fundraising makes our mission possible.
