On Friday, 5 November, Sydney Legacy hosted its annual Remembrance Day Luncheon at Doltone House in Hyde Park to reflect on Australia’s contribution to past and present conflicts.

A uniformed member of the Australian Defence Force was seated at each table, and a number of Sydney Legacy beneficiaries and volunteers were in attendance.

The event featured musical performances from retro signing trio The Pacific Belles as well as words from General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK AC (Mil) CVO MC (Retd).

The Sydney Legacy Remembrance Day Luncheon raffle prize included a $5,000 gift voucher, generously donated by Robert Cliff Master Jewellers, an award-winning Australian jeweller with bespoke designs and ethically-sourced diamonds.

Before lunch was served, Sydney Legacy President Legatee Nikki Hollis welcomed guests, and soon after, beneficiary Vanessa McCarthy-McIntyre spoke about the impact Legacy has had on her family’s lives.

As the sole carer for long periods of time, while enduring significant financial hardship raising a family in Sydney on a single income, Ms McCarthy-McIntyre said her children have received crucial support from Legacy.

Ms McCarthy-McIntyre spoke about how attending Sydney Legacy family camps and weekends trips has enabled them to meet and connect with other families who have gone through similar experiences and form valuable, long-lasting friendships.

After dessert, tea and coffee were served, attendees could place a bid on some incredible prizes in the silent auction, including a unique experience of driving a warship in a Full Mission Bridge Simulator, a round of golf for four people at Killara Golf Club, and an exclusive brewery tour at the 4 Pines Brewery in Manly.

Sydney Legacy thanks Robert Cliff Master Jewellers, our event sponsor Defence Housing Australia, and our venue sponsor, Doltone House for their continued support.

As the nation pauses to reflect on the sacrifices of our veterans this Remembrance Day, please also spare a thought for their families.

Just as we will always remember the fallen, Sydney Legacy will always be there for their loved ones.
