Anzac Day is just around the corner, and Sydney Legacy is looking for volunteers for Operation Rosemary!

From 13 – 25 April 2026, we need volunteers to help us sprig, sort and prepare rosemary at our Sydney CBD office, and to hand it out at dawn services, marches, and NRL games.

Each year, Legacy shares rosemary with the public as a symbol of remembrance. The tradition is deeply tied to Australian history – rosemary grew wild on the hills of Gallipoli and wearing it on Anzac Day honours those who served and their families.

Legacy works with volunteers to prepare and distribute the sprigs on at marches, football games and other events. Last year, more than 40,000 sprigs were prepared. Any donations go directly to supporting our veterans’ families.

The rosemary is generously donated by Cathy and David Harris of Harris Farm Markets. They have been supporting Legacy for more than a decade, and we are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.

How can you get involved?

Volunteer this Anzac Day

Sprig rosemary in the lead up to Anzac Day at our Sydney CBD office. Tasks include trimming sprigs, adding stickers and packing them in Legacy trays, ready for volunteers to hand out. Shifts are only 3 hours and you can choose your preferred days and times between 13 – 24 April.

Or, volunteer to hand out the rosemary on Anzac Day at dawn services, sporting matches or around the CBD.

Order a Rosemary Tray

Support veterans’ families this Anzac Day by ordering a tray of rosemary for your venue or workplace and collecting donations. While rosemary is Legacy’s gift to the public, many people opt to donate in exchange for their sprig.

You can order your rosemary tray here

Can’t volunteer this time?

Host a fundraising event at your office and collect donations from your team. We rely on donations from our community to make Operation Rosemary possible.

If you can’t hold a fundraiser or make it to one of our volunteering days, you can still support our veterans’ families by visiting our website to donate.

Any funds will go directly to Legacy families to provide financial, emotional and social support, such as assistance with education costs, bills and groceries.
